Maori Animal Myth Art

We have just finished some fantastic artwork which was inspired by the author and artist Warren Pohatu and his book 'Maori Animal Myths'.

First we made a blackline drawing of an animal and then filled the background with patterns and designs. We had to use hot and cold colour palettes to create contrast and impact. As the the designs were very intricate we used bright, strong dye applied with a cotton bud to colour our drawings. Come and see them in our new classroom, they look amazing. A few examples are posted here (Finn L's fish, Kaid's kiwi, Reece's eel and Bella's tui) and a full slideshow will be coming soon.
